Special classes are held for our youngest pupils from 3 years of age that are designed to introduce both boys and girls to music and movement through fun and imaginative sessions which at the same time follow a broad basis of dance skills, artistry and musicality. As children progress and develop they are able to move onwards to higher levels and explore various dance genre in greater depth.
Classes are available from five years in Classical Ballet, Modern Dance, Tap Dance and National Dance. These classes are designed to develop the skills and technique of the young dancer building on their expressive, artistic abilities and performance levels. Older children are able to study the additional genres of Jazz dance and Musical Theatre, and talented children are offered opportunities for contemporary dance and choreography as well as competition and festival work. We also offer opportunities for older children that are new to dance or perhaps requiring dance as a back up to their drama studies, to study with groups of young people of similar ages and abilities.
Pupils are given the opportunity to study for the Grade Examinations, Medal Performance Awards, and Major Vocational Examinations of The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) for Classical Ballet, Modern Dance, Tap Dance, Jazz and National Dance and also the examinations of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
During the summer break our popular SUMMER DANCE PROGRAMME takes place. This offers pupils the opportunity to attend summer schools and workshops in a variety of dance genre with the emphasis on musicality and performance working together with their peers in an exciting challenging experience, building on their existing abilities or taking their first steps to learning new skills.
Our ADULT TAP classes are a popular feature of the school not only giving adults fun, recreational dance sessions every week, but also offering excellent cardiovascular exercise. Tap is good for the whole body, for flexibility and posture, and the constant movement is not only good for bone density but also burns about the same amount of calories as jogging! These classes are held at various levels from the complete beginner to the more advanced and are open to adults of any age.
