The Principal

Judith Hockaday

Judith Hockaday was trained at The Dorothy Greenhill School, Reading, The Royal Academy of Dancing and the Arts Educational Trust. She has been Principal of her own school here in Swindon for 50 years and former students can be found dancing and teaching professionally in ballet companies and stage shows here in the UK and abroad.  Ms Hockaday is a Fellow and Major Examiner for The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Imperial Ballet, Modern Theatre, Tap and National Dance Faculties and  Associate of the Royal Academy of Dancing. In 2006 she was awarded the prestigious I.S.T.D Imperial Award for services to dance and dance training.

Miss Heather trained with the JHS here in Swindon and combines her teaching in the School with her role as the Judith Hockaday College Co-Ordinator.  She is also a talented Musical Theatre performer, performing with productions in the local area.

After completing her training here in Swindon at the JHS and the prestigious Royal Ballet School, Miss Jennie taught in and around London before returning to teach in Swindon in 1977.  Whilst in London she was privileged to have studied choreography with the late Russian dancer and choreographer Leonide Massine as well as training in Benesh Dance Notation.

Anna Pershin

After completing her vocational training at the JHS and her teaching Diploma at the prestigious Laine Theatre Arts College, Miss Anna danced professionally for twelve years and her dancing career as both Principal dancer and Dance Captain brings a wealth of experience to our pupils and students.  Her specialities include adage lifts, partner work and audition techniques – particularly valuable for the young dancer wishing to enter the professional stage.

Zara Kent

Miss Zara has been teaching and choreographing within the South West for nineteen years and has been with the JHS and JHC for six years specialising in Modern Dance and Tap.  Miss Zara is also a talented singer and performer and has been an active member of a band for ten years.

Yvette Cummings

Ms Cummings studied at Trinity College of Music and made her debut at the Sadler Wells singing the role of Filipievna in Onegin. As well as an experienced vocal coach, she is a keen recitalist and many former pupils have gone on to successful operatic, pop and musical theatre careers.

Danielle Brien

Visiting teacher, Miss Danielle is a graduate of the Northern Ballet School. Full biography coming soon.

Stas Pershin

Mr Stas is from Moscow where he trained with the Moscow Youth Company until the age of 18, travelling and performing with the company across Russia and Europe. After then he became a member of the Moscow Military Company and later the State Dance Company of Russia as Lead Dancer. After 12 years Mr Stas widened his professional experience travelling the Americas, Caribbean and Europe as Principal Dancer with Carnival Cruise Lines.  Today he travels the UK teaching and lecturing on Russian Folk Dance, notably for the ISTD, the Brit School and Move It.  Mr Stas also specialises in Partner Work and Adage Lifts and lectures in collaboration with his wife Anna.
